Nibbler and Gun

This costume was created when Futurama first came out. I loved the character of Leela, and really wanted it to be my next costume. There were several difficult issues with this costume however, such as for example the eye. How to make it look decent, and still be able to see?

I solved the eye issue by making my first ever latext prostetic. My friend Tom helped me make a cast of my face, which enabled me to sculpt the eye to my own face. Then another negative cast of the sculpted eye gave me a mold for the prostetic. The eye was reinforced with cotton fibers, painted with acrylic paint, and the eyelashes made out of rome were attached with glue. When sculpting the eye I put Leela's pupil in front of one of my own eyes, so that i would be able to see out. The eye worked beautifully actually, but the very narrow field of vision actually made me quite claustrophobic unfortunately.

Next came the wig. I bought a rather pricy blond human hair wig, as long as I could get. I then had it cut by a hair dresser, and I dyed it purple in my bath tub.

I made the bracelet out of foam, duct tape, sculpey and wire mesh. I sewed the top, and bought a pair of pants. I attached small rubber bands to the pants, to be able to attach the laser gun "invisibly".

Unfortunately none of the pictures I have truly capture the full outfit, nor the back of the wig properly, which is a shame. The pony tail went almost as tall as Leela's, which was quite a feat actually!
