3.25 years from sunset

they herded us into the stairwell
of the engineering building
this afternoon at 4:30,
the only place big enough now
to hold all of us. passed out
t-shirts with “future billionaire”
printed on the back. & proceeded
to give us the economic indications
of how well we’ll do tomorrow
at the IPO.
the crowd’s jaw dropped,
too shocked at the numbers
to applaud.

all those zeros
passing through us
like a ghost herd
of stampeding stock cattle.
hungry, thirsty, lost,
& pissed about whoever
cut off their balls.
& tomorrow these zeros
will belong to me.
they will go home with me.
their big, thick feet
muddying up my house
& my car.
they will sit on my chest
at night & ask, what exactly
do I plan to do about them?
