as long as I’m around, nobody cries aloneit’s been a poorly kept secret that I’m leaving the company. so finally I announced it over email in a cheerful, upbeat note. 5 minutes later, I found my boss, the guy I’d hired 4 & a half year ago to take over some of my tasks, fighting back tears in his office that it wasn’t just some cruel joke, that I was really leaving him. & I thought “you asshole. you’ve discussed firing me. you’ve demoted me twice. you gave me a review, not 4 weeks ago, where you accused me of being a liability to the company. & now you cry.” I hated myself worse for crying back at his distress & for all the tipped over things we couldn’t right. |
