demolition angels

“The children of Marx and Coca-Cola”
Jean-Luc Godard’s phrase for the French radical students of the ‘60s.

I wanted to write
about well-organized anarchists
who specialize in looting,
& travel between continents
protesting globalization.
But the words would not lie comfortably
next to each other on the page.
They kept taking up
the sharpened strokes of their t’s
lobbing the dots of their i’s.

Are any of us just one thing anymore?
Are all of us spinning tornadoes
hoping centripetal force
will hold the incompatible pieces from flying apart,
sucking up dust & trailer parks
as subterfuge & armor?
Is this what they meant by ‘the revolution’
that would surely come?
