The following are the letters I brought back from a trip Dean and I took to Tokyo in the last week in March, 2000, for the wedding of a friend (and former co-worker of Dean’s), Ken, to a Japanese woman, Akiko. The wedding took place in the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo on April 1st., a date, I’m told, which has no significance in Japanese culture. It was the beginning of cherry blossom season across the city.
